Christine Ockrent believes globalisation helps women
"No society in the world has managed to extricate itself from extreme poverty without involving women. Not a single society has achieved a balance in its institutions and customs without women playing a key role," French journalist Christine Ockrent, the chief editor of 'The black book on the condition of women', explains in an interview led by Guy Duplat. "Women are the big winners in globalisation. Amartya Sen [an Indian economist] and others have successfully demonstrated that women are crucial in accelerating development: They are the conduits for microcredits, while men often spend their money on drink. Women are also the ones who make decisions about medication, regular condom use, enrolling girls in school, etc. This has become dogma even for the World Bank, which considers women as a foundation stone in drawing up its developmental policies."
