Alain Delon's questionable taste in painting

The actor Alain Delon is selling part of his painting collection in an auction in Paris this Monday, October 15th. Juan Pedro Quinonero, the daily's correspondent sneers at the "mediocrity" of the star's taste. "Visconti was an exceptionally astute collector. The American director Billy Wilder, without being ultra-rich, liked the impressionists and bought several Monets. Clint Eastwood treated himself to a Picasso … . Catherine Deneuve owns several Rothkos. As for Alain Delon, he is selling works by Manessier, Hartung, Nicolas de Staël, Pierre Soulages, Alechinsky, Riopelle, Dubuffet, Zao Wou-Ki and Vieira da Silva among others. … To buy works by these artists in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, was vulgarity: they represented 'modern' values of a modernity that has already passed.”
