The new Spanish-language literature

On the occasion of the 65th Madrid Book Salon, the Nicaraguan writer Sergio Ramirez shares his thoughts on current Spanish-language literature with journalist Winston Manrique. "Spanish-language literature is going through a transition. The emergence of the new generation of writers is salutary. ... Iberian literature has more and more in common with Latin-American literature in its choice of themes. In Spain, the most successful books deal with recent history and historical personalities figure on the literary landscape. It is becoming difficult to detach oneself from reality. Contemporary writing is becoming increasingly journalistic in style."
